Military Spouses Provide Inspiration For 2013

Tuesday, January 8, 2013
Hello friends!

Last week, I shared my New Year Resolutions: to travel more, take a photography class and get my strength back. Now, I’m curious: have you crafted your resolutions for 2013 yet?

If not, let me introduce you to three U.S. military spouses who will inspire you to pick up your pens and jot some goals down. Perhaps you'll be motivated by their personal lives (two of the ladies founded websites to help military families while the other teaches deaf children). Or, maybe it will be their resolutions -- which they share below -- that serves as your muse.

Good luck & enjoy!
Kristina

Cameron Allison is a Navy spouse of eight years and has two children, ages 3 and 1, and two Boston Terriers. She is the founder of MilitaryTownAdvisor.com, a free website where military families leave reviews about their neighborhoods, areas of town, and schools.

My New Year’s Resolution for 2013 is 1.) To rely on the skills of other military spouses and 2.) To be present during off hours. As Military Town Advisor is growing, I need to utilize other military spouses to help me achieve my goals. I have never been good at asking for help, but in 2013, I know I need to rely other military spouses for help. My second resolution is to be present during off hours. As many bloggers and website owners know, there are no regular work hours and you could work all day and all night. In 2013, I am going to commit to only working during typical work hours similar to 9am-5pm. This way I will be physically and mentally present for my family at night and on weekends. I am very excited about 2013 and know there are great things ahead for Military Town Advisor!

Known in blogging circles as Ashley Eights, this Navy wife is also a teacher of deaf/hard of hearing kids. She moved to the Pacific Northwest from the Midwest when her husband started his career in the U.S. Navy about two years ago. Ashley shares their adventures on the blog Eights on the Move to help fellow military families going through the same process, as well as to keep family and friends in the loop.

I'd like to "live the life I have imagined.” I have an absolutely wonderful life, but I think I could do MORE. I've always imagined being someone who would always have a clean house, more in the savings account, less on the scale, etc. Now is the time to take steps to live the life I've imagined for myself.

Kristine Schellhaas is a Marine wife and founder of USMC Life. The website provides information about major Marine Bases across the globe, including military housing, schools and youth programs. The site also provides resources for fiancés and new military spouses, as well as information about Tricare, military discounts, free money for education, moving and PCS tips,  and more.
Resolution: To put myself as a priority in our family this year. Life can be busy and most of us tend to everyone else's needs first. Often times, we get wrapped up in household duties and our children's needs that we often forget about taking care of ourselves. I'm making a step towards my own health and wellness, which (hopefully) will include 5-10 minutes of daily meditation.
