Date Night Fireworks
Thursday, August 9, 2012
Hello friends! Today is National Day in Singapore, a time when Singaporeans commemorate the country's independence from Malaysia in 1965. The celebration this year includes a parade and fireworks. But only Singapore citizens and permanent residents were able to apply for tickets to see the big event. That's okay. Singaporeans apparently like to practice, because my husband and I got a sneak peak of the festivities during a recent date night at a restaurant called IndoChine. On the way to the restaurant, which is located at the Asian Civilisations Museum on Boat Quay (pronounced key), Republic of Singapore Air Force helicopters hovered above while carrying a massive Singapore flag. And towards the end of dinner, fireworks shot high above the museum -- just enough for us to see.
There were other memorable moments about that evening that had nothing to do with the practice for National Day. The restaurant, for example, offered a great view of the water, attentive service and wonderful food.
And once we finished our meal, we walked along the river to enjoy the city's lights and ice cream.
Fireworks, great food and city lights -- the ingredients for a perfect date!
Cheers,
Kristina

What a gorgeous sight! And that ice cream cone, too :)
Okay, you are REALLY making me want to go back to Singapore! I was only there for a few days, but I definitely wouldn't mind being stationed there!
