Our First Meal In Singapore

Thursday, July 12, 2012
For My Traveling Troop's first meal in Singapore, I dreamed of dining at an outdoor hawker center or an indoor food court. From what I've read and heard, there is no better way to experience Singapore's diverse mix of people and food in one sitting than at one of these dining establishments. Perhaps we'd dive into a plate of chicken rice -- a popular dish in Singapore. Or maybe we'd slurp our way through a big bowl of hot noodles.

But I have a confession to make. Our first meal was actually at McDonald's. Our flight arrived at midnight in Singapore and the only eatery that appeared open in the airport was McDonald's. Also, we weren't sure if restaurants outside of the airport were open this late at night. Starving, we lined up to order our Chicken McNuggets and french fries. Although it wasn't the meal I dreamed of, we did get a small taste of Asia via the curry sauce and chili garlic sauce placed on our tray. Thanks, McDonald's.

Did you ever travel to another country and end up eating American food?

Cheers,
Kristina

Yes, I've done that.

Yep! Ate at a McDonald's in Egypt because it was Thanksgiving, and we wanted the taste of home. It was either that or KFC.
