| Catch a glimpse of sail boats and other Monterey, Calif., attractions while Ice Skating By The Bay. |
I took my daughter Bella ice skating in Monterey, Calif., on Sunday. It was her first time on the ice and I was excited to teach her how to glide across the rink. Just one problem: Ice Skating By The Bay only rented hockey skates.

At first, I didn't think that would be a problem. After all, I'm decent on the ice while wearing figure skates. How hard could it be with hockey skates? Well, let's just say I had a death grip on the wall the whole time I skated with Bella. And, I learned that this woman needs toe picks!

Thankfully, a kind ice rink employee saw me struggle and offered to give me a "break." She took Bella around the rink and Bella started to enjoy herself. In the end, I asked Bella what she thought of our ice skating experience. She said it was "slippery and fun!"

Once we changed out of the hockey skates, we decided to nibble on treats at a nearby cafe and explore the area. With the ice skating rink located near Monterey Bay, Fisherman's Wharf and a myriad of shops, there were a lot of things to see and do.

Do you ice skate? What type of skates do you prefer?
